Get to Know Dr. Devan Callaway

Dr. Callaway likes that there is a balance between the art, science, and technical aspects of dentistry, meaning there are multiple ways he can help a patient, often with a single procedure. There are also new products, instruments, and techniques being developed all the time, giving him a chance to learn and improve what he’s able to do for his patients. This is both exciting and gratifying, and he’s eager to share his passion with you.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Callaway always loved math and science. When he was in 8th grade, he went to a summer science and engineering camp at Clemson University for biomedical engineering. While the concepts were interesting, he didn’t want to work in a lab for the rest of his life. His professor at camp said he should look into getting an undergrad degree in biomedical engineering, but go on to medical school. While in college, Dr. Callaway shadowed a variety of medical professionals before spending some time with Dr. Lee. He loved the technical aspects of dentistry and also appreciated the artistry and problem-solving skills required. After this experience, it was clear that he wanted to become a dentist.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Callaway earned his DMD from the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. He went on to complete advanced dental implant training through Implant Pathway, and he’s certified to offer Botox and dermal fillers through the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. To stay at the forefront of his field, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, and the Hinman Dental Society.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Callaway met his wife, Lindsey, as a junior in high school. They got married while he was in dental school, and they’re now the proud parents of two great kids. When he isn’t spending quality time with family, Dr. Callaway likes to watch documentaries, go deer hunting, play golf, and root for the Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia Bulldogs.
